Howdy! It has been a -very- long time since I made a post here, but I'm going to try to be better about it! I'm working on some fun things that I can't wait to share, including a new series and a companion book to the ELA series. 

I've made some major changes in my life, and hopefully will be able to write more. My ultimate goal is for writing to be my full time job, and taking further steps towards that is both exciting and terrifying.

Coming soon, I'll be posting shorts on my site! They'll all belong to a series I'm calling "The Rose Wolf Clan Series". It'll be erotic, and full of shifters and clan politics. I'm really excited! The first one is actually based on a dream I had. You can check out the cover to the left! 

I think this is going to be really fun to work on. And, if it gets popular enough, I'll put all of the shorts into a bound copy. But, that's definitely getting ahead of myself, haha.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to make another blog post about my personal life not in relation to writing/reading! 

I have a lot of hobbies, the main ones are BJD (Ball Jointed Dolls), Pokemon (Collecting), and Video Gaming. Today, I'm going to delve into the world of BJD!

BJD have been a passion of mine since about 2007/2008 (Got my first one in 2008). The picture to the left is of my doll Yuri, who is like one of the loves of my life, haha. I've had her since 2009. She's a Luts Delf Cerberus Project Dark Elf Soo Vampire or DESV for short. It's quite a mouthful, but she's a gorgeous doll. Ball Jointed Dolls (at least of the Asian variety) gained popularity in Japan with the company Volks. From there many, many companies have sprung up from Japan, Korea, China, Europe, and even the US! Nowadays they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. A key component for these dolls are ball joints (as described by the name), strung with elastic, and more often then not, are made with resin, but ABS plastic has started gaining more popularity in recent years. 

Part of what I love with these dolls are the customization ability. They can look however you want. Change the hair, change the eyes, change the face-up, until you're happy with them. It's therapeutic in a way. 

Something that has popped up, unfortunately, are recasts. What is a recast? It is a bootleg copy of an existing doll. Someone takes a doll that someone worked so hard on, makes a mold of it, and then sells them for their own profit while doing virtually no work of their own. Basically, they're stealing. 

For some reason (*cough*entitlement*cough*) these have been gaining popularity as a cheap alternative. Please, please, do not ever buy a recast. These companies are mostly 1-3 people, but for some reason, people think they are big corporations like Walmart and can handle the loss, but they can't. If you want something cheaper, you buy a cheaper doll or you just don't buy it. Please don't be so entitled that you think you have a right to something, even if it means you have to steal the design. Some companies are buckling under the strain that these thieves are placing on them. I wish people would see the harm they are doing. 

If anyone is interested in knowing the legit cheaper alternatives, I'm always happy to steer you in the right direction! 

Support artists! Never buy recast!

So, while trying to think of a topic to make a post about, I decided on something that has been on my mind a lot recently. Rejections. No one is a fan of them, I mean, it sucks for someone to be uninterested in the story you poured your heart and soul into. The first couple were like punches to the gut (especially since they were two of my dream agents), but I tried to shake it off. (And now I'm going to have that Taylor Swift song stuck in my head...) 

I tried to convince myself that it was fine and it didn't hurt every time I got a subsequent rejection. As someone with depression and anxiety, even with my medications, I can still feel that monster of doubt creeping over my shoulder, ready to just attack me and tell me that I'm not good enough to be published and that I should just quick. 

But, I just chop him in the neck and try to hold my head up (Which would be so much easier if he stopped putting his dead weight on it...). I adore my characters and their story. Without getting any feedback from agents (I know they are very busy people!) I don't know what it is that doesn't appeal to them, but I can't automatically assume that it's because I'm a bad writer. Any number of things could be holding me back.

I want to believe in my writing and myself. So what if my pile of rejections makes JK Rowling's look like a post-it note? One day I'll find someone to be a champion for my work.

No, not Christmas. Fall! 

There's spooky things popping up, the air is cooling off, and umm APPLE CIDER! Forget pumpkin spice, I'm all about my apples this time of year, haha. Apple cider, apple picking, caramel apples, and of course the bajillion apple scented things that come out. I'm not saying I bought an unnecessary bottle of Febreeze because it smelled like apples, but... there is definitely one sitting in my house right now, haha. 

Now, I'm not a pumpkin hater at all. I love how pumpkins look, I love carving them, eating the seeds, and um Culver's has this amazing Pumpkin Cheesecake Concrete Mixer that they do sometimes and ooooh is that good, but... It's not a spiced apple, haha. 

Another amazing thing about Fall, Halloween! Not only is it fun to do all the haunted houses, hayrides, and trick-or-treating, it's also my birthday! So as a child Halloween meant dressing in costumes, eating cake, getting candy, AND presents! Even as an adult I still enjoy it because I love cosplay, and it's just fun. 

Now if all of these stupid mosquitoes would buzz off, it would be perfect out right now, haha.

So, I've been thinking about certain characters in my story a lot lately. In my erotica about Apollo, one of the main characters seems to always pull my attention even when I'm not writing her. My best friend has read a couple-few chapters of the story, and even sometimes she mentions her! 

Her name is Makoto. She's the best sassy character I'm pretty sure I've ever written, and she just makes me smile and laugh. I wrote the things she says and they still get me going. Some days I'll randomly think of scenarios with her, or her back story, and then I'm just like... Damn, I miss her. I got massively stuck on the story with her in it and haven't touched it in... over a year, maybe two. I may just write a short with her as the MC and see how that gets my creative juices flowing... or if it just inspires a whole other thing with her, haha.

Another of my characters that seems to always stick in my mind is Johannes from my novel I'm currently querying. It's sort of a shock to me because in my first draft of the story, he was 100% the villain. (Which has changed immensely since then, but he's still a dick, lol.) I didn't care for him, he sort of irritated me, and he was rude. But as things changed, he started clawing into my brain... I've had... three dreams of him now. Even the editor that worked on ELA said they had a dream of him! He's a worm that will get right into your brain, LOL. He'll make you love him even if you're mind is telling you not to. 

There's a couple other characters that always pop in my mind (Henry from my EotG series for sure.) and it makes me feel good as a writer that I can manage to do that... And I hope when others get to read these stories that my characters stick with them too. 

I entered a contest! When I saw it was for banter, I got so excited! If there's one thing I'm confident in with my writing, it's banter. I think it's because in real life I'm incredibly sassy and that translates a lot into my characters, haha. I love to laugh, and if I can translate that into my characters, I'm very happy. So, wish me luck! and if you're savvy with the banter, you should give it a try too!

Hello, everyone! I thought I'd try something different today and write a post not related to my writing. 

On Labor Day (Monday) my boyfriend and I went to the Bristol Renaissance Faire. We try to go on Labor Day as it's the last day of the event and it's also like the only day Ian doesn't work that the faire is going on. 

So, when I found out it was supposed to storm, I was a little sketchy, but we powered through it anyway. Though, I was a little tempted to turn back around when the rain was so bad that I couldn't see much ahead of myself. But, we made it, and it was far less rainy in Bristol.

That's not to say there wasn't mud EVERYWHERE. (RIP to my Mickey Mouse sneakers.) A guy was advertising the mud show and it's like, everywhere is the mud show... At one point I also scaled down the side of a building to get down a hill because it was too slippery with the mud. Not going to lie, I was kind of proud of myself for not falling and landing in the dirt. 

I didn't wear a costume this year, but for the next one, I'm thinking I want to put together a rogue outfit. We'll see. I make grandiose plans for costumes for like anime conventions and then end up wearing the same Squidling costume anyway, LOL. But, I did buy some suuuuuper cute hair bun cages that would look awesome with a costume. 

Anyway, it was a lot of fun at the faire. We did a lot of browsing, then the rain started and we huddled under our umbrella to eat. Which, I had the best crepe ever. It was a chocolate crepe covering strawberry ice cream with whip cream, chocolate drizzle, and strawberries on top. Yummmmm! Ian had a Sheppard's Pie which is his food of choice for the Faire. Bristol was actually the first place I had a Sheppard's Pie! 

After getting completely soaked and partially covered in mud, we made our way to Lake Geneva for dinner. Lake Geneva is like our number one date spot. But, sadly, our favorite restaurant there closed. The Tempura House had amazing sushi. 

So, now we go to Popeye's in Lake Geneva (No, not the chicken place, lol.) It's this pretty cool place that has like five different kinds of Bloody Marys which is like right up my alley. After dinner we walked around and talked. Lake Geneva is super pretty, so even with a lot of the shops closed by the time we got into town, it was still nice. Plus the lake is beautiful and we were looking at the fish that were swimming around. 

All in all it was a great date and we ended up passing out pretty hard when we got home, haha! 

I've been wanting to join the RWA for a very long time, ever since learning about it through Sylvia Day's novels. I felt like, joining would prove that I'm serious about my writing career and doing what it takes to move forward. 

I finally took the plunge earlier in the week and got an email today that I was accepted for their general membership, AND I'M SO HAPPY! I also joined the Fantasy, Futuristic, and Paranormal Chapter today and hope to join my local Wisconsin Chapter soon. 

Through the RWA I've already found some great contests (One about banter, and whooo boy let me tell you I've got some characters with sass for days!) and feel like this as a whole will be a great driving factor to keep pushing myself. I've got to prove myself, and I'm determined to do it. 

I know I have a lot to learn to improve my writing and make it shine and sparkle, but I'll get there as long as I keep going.
